Our Story

Experiences studying abroad in Germany led to a life-long passion for pilsners and helles (light) lagers. With the idea of re-creating those beers in the South, Tucker Brewing Company was founded in 2017 by Ryan Chapman and Ashley Chapman Hubbard.

Tucker Brewing Company is the only brewery in Georgia dedicated to making easy-to-drink, flavorful lager beers. We are a family-owned and -operated brewery that exists to live our passions and share them with others. Every day we take an honest, intuitive approach to developing a solid product and experience through artisan craftsmanship and attention to detail making the highest-quality, primarily lager beers, creating a warm and inviting space and providing world-class service.

Tucker Brewing Company

In 1998, my father started his own firm, GPI Group, manufacturing and selling building products. My sister and I joined the company twelve years ago and, since then, have worked hard to continue to grow the business. In 2016, we realized that the company was outgrowing the warehouse space we were renting, so we decided it was time to purchase our own building. When we moved our company into the much larger warehouse on Bibb Drive, I began envisioning a greater use for the extra space, one that had the potential to make a positive impact on the Tucker community.

Looking back, I guess you could say I got an early start in the brewing game. I lived in Germany as an exchange student during both high school and college. On my first trip there, my host student, Anders Thomas – who till this day is a good friend – introduced me to Detmolder Pilsener, the local beer from the small town we lived in. When I got home, my dad and I started brewing beer in our basement and attending meetings of the local brewer’s club.

Now, I won’t say that building products and beer go together, but I do think that Germany and beer go hand in hand. Our new, larger space allowed me to bring these two passions together in hopes of bringing a unique experience to Tucker and, more broadly, to Georgia.

Grateful for the support of my family and friends, I am thrilled to share my love of beer, the craft of brewing and the opportunity for endless socializing over freshly-poured glasses with you as we start this new endeavor together. Cheers!

Tucker, Georgia: A Railroad Town

The City of Tucker’s history is inextricably linked with the railroad.

Although people had been living in the area now known as Tucker for quite a long time, it did not have an official name until the completion of the first railroad station in April 1892. Stories suggest that the new station was given the name “Tucker” after either a railroad captain or a local farmer. The city was incorporated in 2016.

We at Tucker Brewing have tried to include this history in our brand through our trainlight logo. Additionally, you will see a Georgia rail map on our TKR Pilsner labels, as well as a replica boxcar door – our ‘Door of Inspiration’ – in our Tasting Room. Stop by soon to sign it and tell us what inspires you!

Our Space

Tucker Brewing Company is located at 2003 South Bibb Drive in Tucker.
The building has had an interesting history since it was built in the early 1970s. The original occupant was HC Brill Bakery. If you walk around the space, you can still see evidence of special baking equipment, for example, references to “Brownie Cutters” and other devices installed specifically for the original tenant.

Some of the subsequent tenants include Savannah Distributing Company (who distribute Creature Comforts Brewing Company, a fantastic brewery based in Athens, GA), Nature’s Garden Express (organic food home delivery), a cabinet refinisher, as well as, of course, GPI Group.

Buildout of Our Space

We broke ground on renovating the existing building and land for our Tasting Room and Beer Garden in late 2017 and completed the work in May 2018.

Community Involvement

Tucker Brewing is proud to be part of the Tucker community. We were the first brewery in Tucker, and we strive every day to embody the spirit of an old European brewery by being heavily involved in the community, creating a focal point where Tuckerites – and folks from farther away – can gather to celebrate events of all types with friends and family.

We are extremely grateful for how the Tucker community and city officials have embraced our efforts, and we look to give back by crafting high-quality beer and creating a beautiful and relaxing environment in which to enjoy our brews.

Tucker Brewing makes it a priority to be active in the City of Tucker and participates in all major Tucker events, such as Tucker Day, the annual Tucker Chili Cook-Off, the Taste of Tucker, Trunk or Treat and more.

Philanthropy

Last year, we chose to make education the focal point of our philanthropic efforts. Dianne Chapman, the mother of our two owners, was an educator for over 30 years, making education near and dear to our hearts.

With over 1,100 students, Idlewood Elementary School is the largest and most in-need of the schools in the Tucker Cluster. Because of this, we partnered with Principal Malone and Idlewood for the 2019 calendar year.

We love the partnerships we have within the community and look forward to contributing time, money and in-kind donations to make a real impact on the community.

About Tucker

Started homebrewing with Dad before I could legally drink—turning my parents' shed into a brew lab with my brother. From maple-bacon porters to wild berry saisons, we hosted backyard tastings paired with Mom's amazing dishes.

Trained at August Schell's Brewing (2nd oldest in the US!) under Brewmaster Jace Marti, then studied at VLB Berlin. Now at Tucker Brewing, crafting traditionally-inspired, high-quality beer. When not brewing, I'm exploring new places and perfecting my spicy queso recipe while watching Sunday golf.
